PDC Football History

A little history about PDC Football. Way back in 1979, the Pro Football Weekly publication put on a promotion they called Pro Draft Challenge (our PDC). It was a season long fantasy campaign where they offered some type of prizes (like a free year subscription) and was available to all subscribers. Their roster (entry) rules was fairly simple, you entered a roster of 28 players, one from each of the then, 28 NFL teams. You had to select 3 QB,s 5 RB's, 5 WR's 3 TE's, 2 KR's 2 PK's an Ol, a DL and 6 individual defensive players. The tough choice was whom to take from SD, Kellen Winslow, the leagues premiere TE or Dan Fouts. Your roster was entered via a hand written form and an envelope and stamp. The rosters were not changed for the season, what you started with was what you had all season. The scoring was somewhat close to what we still use. PFW would print the top scoring entries in weekly and ytd scoring. PFW's contest ran, I believe 2 seasons.

We decided to start our own version that same year, 1979, using what PFW had proposed and PDC Football was born. There were, I believe, 10-12 entries with a minimal entry fee. The scoring was done manually. The following year we had over 20 entries. Following that we switched to a player draft, as we do now. Many of our scoring rules are unchanged from the first contest proposed by PFW. PDC Football has endured many changes and have dealt with owners of all ilk since. Many are immortalized on the flash intro on PDCSPORTS.com.
